The Approval represents a major milestone for the adoption and use of graphene in the EU

Applied Graphene Materials (LSE: AGM), is delighted to announce that approval has been granted by ECHA, the European Chemical Agency, for a volume threshold of 1 to 10 tonnes of powder usage per annum of graphene products supplied by individual members of the Graphene REACH registration consortium, of which AGM is a founding member.

Following a rigorous evaluation of the range of graphene materials which each consortium member offers, and completion of the final submission documents to ECHA towards the end of 2020, the successful outcome represents a major milestone for the graphene industry and enables consortium members such as AGM to supply quantities of graphene materials in volume. The tonnage band registration of 1 to 10 tonnes p.a. provides confidence in the potential for volume quantity use of graphene materials in the range of applications which consortium members including AGM are pursuing.

“I am delighted to announce the successful REACH registration for this volume tonnage band, which represents the culmination of almost four years of work. Strategically, we identified the critical importance of regulatory registration to the long-term success of our business and have committed significant resources to achieve this result today. This registration underpins the effective and safe use of AGM’s graphene materials at higher volumes.  AGM continues to demonstrate the excellent utility of our graphene products with our customer engagements, and this registration will ensure we can meet our ambitions for larger volume orders as our commercial pipeline continues to develop.

I would like to recognise the tireless efforts of our Technical team as members of the graphene consortium who have pursued the substantial workload that is represented in this registration announcement.”

Applied Graphene Materials, the producer of speciality graphene nanoplatelet dispersions, is delighted to announce that its customer, Halo Autocare Limited, a leading innovator in car care products, has launched Graphene Alloy Wheel Wax as part of its EZ Car Care range of products. This is the second graphene-enhanced wax polish product launched by Halo Autocare as part of its Graphene Innovation Programme, which uses AGM’s Genable® graphene dispersion technology.

The microcrystalline wax-based polish is the result of the continued partnership and a rigorous testing programme delivered by Halo Autocare. This has produced a new product that delivers extended performance benefits, including improved thermal and chemical resistance to enhance coating durability further for demanding wheel and exhaust applications. The temperature resistance made possible through the new graphene nanoplatelet formulation helps with durability when alloy wheels heat up from consistent brake use. Combining these attributes with excellent barrier performance means that water spotting is also less likely to occur.

Graphene Alloy Wheel Wax, which is enhanced with AGM’s industry-leading Genable® graphene dispersion technology, is available online at https://www.ezcarcare.co.uk/ and represents a further milestone for both companies in bringing graphene nanoplatelet-based products to the wider market.

It is a great pleasure to see yet another product enhanced with AGM’s graphene dispersions coming to market, thanks to our ongoing customer collaboration and AGM’s easily applicable materials that can deliver transformational performance. Our graphene products have demonstrated exceptional performance in an increasingly broad range of applications and our focus on delivering graphene nanoplatelets in a format that makes them easy to adopt in practical applications is supporting continued product momentum.

Our strategy at this stage in our growth cycle has been to demonstrate the practical utility of graphene-based dispersions at innovative businesses that see the value of new technology opportunities. Halo fits this category well, as natural innovators in their field, with a focus on the commercialization of differentiated products. The development of our relationship with Halo Autocare is exciting and I look forward to seeing the commercial results of their current and future cutting-edge product launches.”

Adrian Potts, Chief Executive Officer of AGM

Halo Autocare and our sister company Innovation Chem have been working to incorporate Graphene technology into our product ranges via our brand EZ Car Care. We are extremely proud to announce that we have successfully dispersed AGM’s ground breaking Genable® graphene dispersion into wax-based systems, a quick detailing spray and a cream sealant.

We released our Graphene carnauba wax in October 2020 and we have had phenomenal feedback from our customers. The results have been excellent & during our vigorous R&D period testing has shown a great improvement with the addition of the Graphene dispersion.

I hope that this is just the beginning for Graphene technology in the automotive sector and we will continue to push innovation within our field.

In a time of cancelled exhibitions European Coatings have set up a virtual ‘suppliers hub’ allowing access to video presentations about innovations of raw material.

Applied Graphene Materials used the presentation Lynn Chikosha delivered last year at European Coatings Show titled ‘novel, non-metal graphene nanoplatelet hybrid anti-corrosive system’.  This paper will discuss the extension of use of AGM’s graphene nanoplatelets into C4 and C5 type environments, benchmarking against zinc rich systems.  The objectives are:

  • Can graphene give significant uplifts in corrosion resistance when applied direct to substrates in C4/C5 environments.
  • Can performance of zinc rich systems be further extended by using a graphene enhanced tie-coat layer?

The full video presentation and results can be found by signing up on the European Coatings website.  Alternatively, you can download the presentation from our Knowledge Hub

AGM Delighted to Announce Major Development of Commercial Team

AGM is delighted to announce the promotion of Andy Gent and Sam Whitehead as part of the development of its commercial team.

From the end of April, Nigel Blatherwick, Commercial Director, will be leaving AGM to pursue a different career path. AGM would like to thank Nigel for his dedicated service and wish him well with his plans for his new role.

Nigel Blatherwick commented:

I’d like to take the opportunity to wish AGM and its customers all the best. I firmly believe over the last 5 years the AGM team has created a business with a second-to-none understanding of how best to apply and exploit new graphene technology into the coatings and composites industry and the steady stream of new customer applications points to an exciting future.

Taking over from Nigel, Andy Gent is appointed to the role of Commercial Director. Andy originally joined AGM’s business development team in January 2018 having previously managed the European TERATHANE® business for INVISTA. Following on from his degree in Colour and Polymer Chemistry, Andy spent 10 years in research and development, before transitioning into sales initially with Clariant followed by Evonik TEGO® then moving to INVISTA. With over 20 years’ experience in the coatings industry in both technical and European sales management roles, AGM believes Andy is the perfect fit to guide the business through the next stages of its growth plan.

Andy Gent commented:

“I am thrilled; this is something that I have been working hard towards since starting my MBA and I am delighted to have been given this opportunity. This is a very exciting time in AGM’s history and I am looking forward to playing a pivotal role in the successful growth of the revenue base of the organisation.”

To support Andy, the UK Sales Manager role has been filled with the promotion of Sam Whitehead. A scientist by training, Sam studied Chemistry at Leeds University before developing his coatings experience with AkzoNobel. Having originally joined AGM’s technical team in November 2018, Sam has played a key part demonstrating the benefits of our graphene additives in anti-corrosion applications with customers, as well as developing the new graphene dispersions that we offer for coatings systems.

Sam Whitehead commented:

I was delighted to hear about the promotion to the sales team. I believe I can make a real impact on the growth of AGM, and I really look forward to connecting with new clients to forge new business relationships and achieve success in graphene integration in their products.

Adrian Potts CEO said:

I am excited for the opportunity that this change presents and look forward very much to Andy and Sam’s input in developing our sales approach and growing our revenue results. We have clear commercial targets to achieve and I’m confident in our team to do the absolute best to get us there together.

I would also like to put on record my thanks to Nigel. He and I joined the company the same week a number of years ago, and we have worked together tirelessly to get the company to where it is today.
