We’re pleased to announce the implementation of a key component of our technology roadmap following a successful grant application supported by the Tees Valley Business Growth Fund (TVBGF), which supports SMEs in the Tees Valley to grow their business, improve productivity and stimulate local growth.

After a decade in business, AGM has seen growth in many areas and has expanded its inhouse capabilities to meet increasing demand for its graphene nanoplatelet technology. The installation of a new paint and coatings spray booth facility using the funding secured will facilitate accelerated internal research and customer developments, offer additional specialist training opportunities for staff, and enable AGM to complete projects even more efficiently and with a broader scope.

Growth Fund grant programmes can provide a significant contribution towards the expansion of regional SMEs and can help them to compete on a national and an international level. The funding opportunity identified by AGM through the Tees Valley Combined Authority has resulted in around £47,500 being awarded to the Company.

The Tees Valley Business Growth Fund is managed by Tees Valley Business, which is the local growth hub for the Tees Valley, established by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority. The fund is receiving support from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

AGM has launched a ground-breaking new range of eco-friendly graphene nanoplatelet dispersions that will enable paints, coatings and composite materials customers to improve the sustainability of their product formulations in response to growing market pressures.

Materials suppliers are being driven to invest in biobased innovation as customers and their end consumers become increasingly aware of the safety and environmental impact of the raw materials they use. Growing pressure to comply with stringent health and safety legislation and demonstrate a reduced environmental impact is forcing manufacturers to progressively introduce bioderived alternatives to traditional chemicals.

All ten of the top ten coatings companies by global sales now offer eco-friendly products with low-VOC emissions, and the reduction or replacement of traditional solvents is now a high priority.

AGM’s Genable 1700 series of eco-friendly graphene nanoplatelet dispersions are based on the Company’s well-established Genable graphene dispersion technology, which is already proven to deliver significant performance uplifts such as chemical resistance, barrier and anti-corrosion properties. 

The new Genable 1700 series of dispersions are integrated with a selection of certified, fully biobased solvents and resins available in the market, including Cyrene™ (dihydrolevoglucosenone), an award-winning biorenewable solvent, and industry-leading renewable resins Entropy Resin One and Entropy Resin CCR, a solvent-free liquid epoxy resin and a solvent-free hydroxy functional polyester.

The Genable 1700 series product range is now available for sampling evaluation by customers for use in a wide range of liquid coatings and composite materials formulating applications.

We are delighted to announce that our partnership with a leading innovator in the cycling market, Tru-Tension, has resulted in the launch of a brand new detailing spray enhanced with AGM’s graphene nanoplatelet technology.

UK-based Tru-Tension designs and manufactures products for biking enthusiasts, from tools and cleaning products for commuters and adventure riders, to lubricants and accessories for high performance motorcycle racing. Following a programme of in-house research and testing, the manufacturer claims that the new formulation enhanced with AGM’s industry-leading Genable® graphene dispersion technology delivers extended performance benefits.

This recognition comes as AGM takes its work around Corrosion to the next level, having recently presented its latest breakthrough technology at the recent Corrosion 21 Conference organised by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP).

AGM has previously demonstrated significant uplifts in anti-corrosion performance in solvent-based coatings through the use of its industry-leading Genable graphene nanoplatelet dispersion technology. However, water-based coating development remains a key focus for industries formulators who are looking to improve the safety and environmental impacts of their products. AGM’s ground-breaking technology enables the easy addition of graphene nanoplatelet dispersions into water-based epoxy coatings and delivering improved corrosion protection.

This research represents an important development in increasing the anti-corrosion performance of waterborne coating for a range of industry applications.

One of AGM’s key distribution partners, specialty chemical supplier Maroon Group, has entered into an agreement to be acquired by global distributor Barentz International. The acquisition aims to expand Barentz’ activities in the North America region, and according to senior leaders, is aligned with its strategy to become a global leader in the life science and broader specialty chemical industries.

AGM secured its distribution partnership with world class distributor Maroon Group in March 2020, as a direct route into the coatings and polymers sectors across the United States and Canada. Following the announced acquisition, this exclusive agreement is set to continue, facilitating collaboration on new customer developments incorporating AGM’s proprietary Genable graphene dispersion technology.

In addition to its own commercial hubs in the U.K. and the United States, AGM now has distribution agreements with local expert chemicals and coatings distributors in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Greece, Italy, Turkey, South Africa, Japan, China and South Korea.

Our name may be changing, but the entrepreneurial culture and fundamental values that have defined us will continue to be reflected in our new identity. We’re delighted to announce that our latest Car Care customer, Constellation Chemicals, has launched two new sealants in its car detailing product range enhanced with AGM’s graphene nanoplatelet technology.

The two products, Parallax, a graphene-enhanced ceramic sealant and Gravity, a graphene-enhanced snow sealant, launch following a programme of research and testing by Constellation Chemicals. The growing UK-based manufacturer of car care products claims that they offer performance enhancements such as hydrophobicity, chemical resistance to acid rain, road salt and bird lye and produce excellent durability, gloss, water repellence and beading.

The new product launches demonstrate further progress in the incorporation of AGM’s industry-leading Genable graphene nanoplatelet dispersions for the car care market. Working in partnership with forward-looking players in the industry such as Constellation Chemicals, ensures AGM can continue to drive graphene innovation in car detailing
applications with its customers.

With graphene being the new buzz word on the detailing scene we wanted to get ahead of the competition. Working with AGM’s Genable® range we quickly managed to formulate two products which have exceeded our expectations.

These products offer some great characteristics for the automotive industry including corrosion and chemical resistance, gloss enhancement and heat dissipation.

We are excited to have been able to release two brand new graphene-enhanced car care products – our ceramic sealant “Parallax”, and our snow sealant “Gravity”. Following months of research and development this success has only been possible thanks to the insights and support from the team at AGM.

We are delighted to confirm the release of our interim results for the six months ended 31 January 2021.

Operational highlights from the first half-year include continued positive progress within the Coatings, Composites, Functional materials sectors, as well as increased activity within the Car Care industry.

Recent technological developments for the company have enabled the launch of new customer products offering enhanced sustainable credentials through the use of graphene. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, further distributors have been added to enhance AGM’s global presence, increasing our customer-facing representation headcount to around 79 including AGM’s direct sales team. A continued focus on maximising the safety of all team members remains, as commercial momentum increases and the impact of COVID-19 recedes.

Alongside the recent branding refresh and the company’s outstanding ECHA accreditation, a positive financial outlook including the successful fundraise campaign, rounded off the interim report.

Similarly, our expanded distributor base is generating a growing number of new customer engagements. DIRECTORATE CHANGE – MIKE TOWNEND

Our Non-Executive Director, Mike Townend, has indicated that he wishes to step down from the AGM Board with effect from 25 March 2021. Mike is also shareholder IP Group’s representative on the AGM Board. IP Group will not be replacing Mike with a new representative.

Applied Graphene Materials is pleased to announce that its customer, Infinity Wax, a major manufacturer of car care products in Europe, has launched a second car care product enhanced with the Company’s graphene technology. Using AGM’s industry leading Genable graphene nanoplatelet dispersions, Infinity Wax has launched Graphene Wax, a new generation of high performance car wax.

Infinity Wax launched the new Graphene Wax on 28 January 2021, following the success its ground-breaking QDX Graphene Detailing Spray launched during Q4 2020. The new product offers outstanding water beading and sheeting properties as a result of increased hydrophobicity, resulting in long term paint protection. Graphene Wax makes it easy to wipe away dirt, enabling car owners to achieve a professional wax shine.

The new wax product is the result of an extensive evaluation and testing programme between Infinity Wax and AGM. Infinity Wax expects to see significant customer interest in the new product, as was seen in the launch of its QDX Detailing Spray in 2020, where initial stocks sold faster than anticipated and attracted interest from a number of specialist journals and forums for car groups.  The Graphene Wax product is available to car owners directly from www.infinitywax.com and at a growing network of car detailing shops across the UK and Europe.
